Experiencing stabbing pain when pooping during periods can be attributed to a condition known as dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea refers to painful menstrual cramps that occur in the lower abdomen and pelvic area. These cramps are caused by the contraction of the uterine muscles as the uterus sheds its lining. During menstruation, hormonal changes trigger the release of prostaglandins, which can cause increased contractions of the uterus and intestinal muscles. These contractions can lead to discomfort and pain during bowel movements.
